CityCubes and Sylvester Transform Sports Palace into Innovative Experience Palace during FTI Final Festival

Over 33,000 visitors saw the Antwerp Sportpaleis and Lotto Arena transformed into a true palace of experience during the FTI Slot Festival on 23 and 24 March. Young and old enjoyed an abundance of content, entertainment and engaging talks around the power of Flemish Innovation and Technology.

Led by FTI Festival director Dries Mahieu and curator Bruno Schaubroek, the closing festival was the crowning glory of 10 days of FTI Festival. This festival with the theme ‘Welcome to the Future’ was supported by Flemish prime minister and the entire Flemish government. With the aim of introducing the public to the latest developments in technology and innovation.

The FTI closing festival is the result of a unique collaboration between CityCubes and Sylvester in which the qualities and competences of both agencies only reinforced each other.

Together, they faced the challenge of making innovation and technology accessible to a wide audience. CityCubes and Sylvester successfully made that translation which resulted in an event full of experiences that appealed to both young and old.

In 28 talks spread over eight sessions, visitors learned about all kinds of surprising and creative sides of innovative technology, ranging from sports (food) technology to space and climate, healthy living and the use of AI in art and music.

Children and students were enthused about STEM courses, the gaming industry, robotics and technology with various activations and talks (“with a real robot!”).

Tech companies, colleges and universities, as well as potential investors, were further given the opportunity to learn about innovations and creativity within the sector.

Dries Mahieu, festival director of FTI, said:

“With the mission of Flanders Technology & Innovation, we sought to put technology & innovation on the map in Flanders, inject a sense of pride and pride and offer experiences tailored to each individual.

In our choice to programme the FTI Final Festival in the Sportpaleis and Lotto Arena, the experts at CityCubes and Sylvester translated this challenge perfectly by transforming the venue into a creative and immersive experience showcase for young and old for the first time.”

Dieter Veulemans, Partner & Creative Director at CityCubes, shared his pride about the punishing result: “Since the FTI closing weekend, I have been walking around with the ‘biggest smile ever’. So proud and grateful that with all partners and stakeholders we have come to this fantastic result of the FTI Final Festival. We received the best compliment from 1 of the visitors, namely that after visiting FTI, their daughter resolutely chose a STEM study programme instead of a classical one. That was exactly our intention and together we succeeded 100% so!”

Bart Fagard, Account Director at Sylvester, stressed the importance of a broadly accessible concept: “We thoroughly researched the needs of all target groups and developed a unique itinerary full of experience and relevant content for each of them. This way, all visitors found something that appealed to them.”

FTI stands for “Flanders Technology & Innovation” and is an initiative that promotes and supports innovation and technology of Flanders to shape the future.
